Project 64: Burnt Sienna

project64 button

This week at Project 64 the color was burnt sienna.

For the second consecutive week, I found the color in my kids' things. This time, it was in my two year old's toy truck. In particular, the rock being hauled.

This would be my entry if it were just one photo.  However, this week we were given the challenge of creating a diptych.  This is the second photo of my diptych.

I don't know how to use Photoshop, so I had to find another application to make my diptych.  I found Mosaic Maker.  Here is my diptych.

I don't know how to manipulate the diptych application to prevent the cropping of the vertical photo. I am pleased, however, that I was able to find a program that could do this easily. I have used AndreaMosaic in the past to make full-fledged mosaics, so I don't know if it could have been used to make a diptych, but I haven't downloaded it on my current laptop and I wanted something quick and easy. So voila!

I Heart Faces: Best Face in March

Two of my three kids at our school's local playground.

Boy, does he love to swing.

Project 64: Spring Green

Spring Green. You'd think it would be easy to find this color in nature, given that it's now April. However, around my neck of the woods, we had an April Fools' Day snowstorm which dropped a few inches of the white stuff and obliterated any natural green that might be around.

Interestingly, my kids' toys were full of this color, although I had never paid much attention to it prior to this past week. The photo I ultimately selected is a sort of compilation of a young girl's treasures.

Frame-A-Day: Week 13: 3/26-4/1

*March 26--First Communion Retreat--Trust and I attended her First Communion retreat today.  There were four stations that each child needed to visit--a tour of the sanctuary and sacristy given by the priest, short videos about important qualities of Catholics and the Church, a review of the Last Supper followed by a tasting of the non-consecrated host so there would be no surprises on the Big Day, and making a banner which will be hung at the end of our assigned pew for the First Communion ceremony.  Note that this is not the full photo, but in the interest of privacy I had to crop the photo.  Also, no one else was taking photos, so I felt awkward taking a ton.  Not the greatest photo, but it captured what we did.

March 27--Book and Wine Rejuvenated--After an approximately three year hiatus, my Book and Wine Club is back. Kim hosted the first of hopefully many more get togethers. I have known some of these women for nine years (and one day), since wedding planning days back in 2002, but who is counting? Despite the length of time, there were still two new friends to meet today.

March 28--Happy Birthday!--We celebrated Chretien's birthday tonight because tomorrow night we have Trust's reading recital and we won't have time for cake, or homemade toll house cookie pie, as the case may be.

March 29--Reading Recital--The second graders at Trust's school have a reading recital at Barnes and Noble each year. All the kids have a chance to read for a few minutes from a book of their own choosing for family and friends. There is also a fund-raising component to provide additional books for her classroom. Trust selected "Don't Call Me Beanhead" because it made her laugh. Her selection was about a lost tooth winding up down the sink. She did a great job!

March 30--Pea Rolling--The boys were picking at their peas at dinner, rather than eating them. Chretien made up a game called "pea rolling", where they'd put one in their mouths and roll it around, all the while shaking their heads back and forth. Earnest took it up a notch and put 10 peas in his mouth all at once. Here you can see that round of pea rolling. Needless to say, more peas were eaten with the inclusion of this game.

March 31--Shaping Up--Imp loves the Curious George book "Discovery Day" with all types of interactive flaps to explore.

April 1--Snow? April Fools?--Or not. On April first we awoke to about 3-4" of wet, slushy snow. Trust decided to take advantage of the snow to make one last snowman of the season.

Quarterly Top Five Photos

NapTime MomTog

This isn't a photography contest per se, but rather a chance to share favorite photos from the first three months of 2011.

So, in no particular order:

My daughter with her American Girl doll in matching outfits that my mother-in-law made them for Christmas.  I thought they both looked cute together.

My older son at the playground. He takes after me in that in many photos, he is blinking or his eyes are closed. In this photo, I managed to catch him with eyes open and he just looks healthy and happy to me with those rosy cheeks.

I like how I've caught my younger son just having what looks like the time of his life on the swing.

Love the concentration and determination on his face.  Also pleased that this was shot in manual with no flash.  This family room is so poorly lit and I often have to resort to using a flash if I want to get anything decent.

This is one of our cats, Moe.  This is taken near the same window as the previous photo, and again, I was so thrilled that I caught a decent photo with no flash and in manual mode.  I also like the warm colors (and how Moe coordinates with the color of the woodwork surrounding him).

I Heart Faces: A Slice of Life

We had a week off over at I Heart Faces, but it's back and this week's theme is "A Slice of Life".

We set up the tire swing this week and I shot a few photos, but I didn't like any nearly as much as this one from last spring, so I'm going with this one:

It's sort of difficult to see what she is doing, but she is swinging from a huge tree in our yard while sitting in a harness.  My husband is good at switching out the 'swing' so sometimes we have the harness and sometimes a tire.  The kids love it, as you can see.

Project 64: Tickle Me Pink

This week we had to find "Tickle Me Pink".  I shot this photo tonight:

I think the pink color of the life preservers works.  This is part of a game called Ring-o Flamingo that we played at my daughter's school's family game night tonight.

However, I think I like this photo that I shot in January better, and this is the photo I am submitting for the Project 64 challenge this week:

The girls' leotards match this color as well.
